Last couple of days hav been pity sad coz of the twenty20 final... Although gettin it out coz a sub continent team won it...
The shot that spoiled the match...:(((
What a thrilling Final! It was for sure that match would end in scintillation. Its fact one team has to lose and other has to win. In this Final India held their nerves while Pakistani batsmen wobbled and panicked. They played unnecessarily lose shots while they were required to consolidate the inning at a time when wickets were tumbling. Our bowlers did wonderful job by containing Ind and getting Yuvraj and Dhoni out early but alas! Pak lost the golden opportunity to win!
Nazir looked in good touch but his run-out was the crucial one and made a huge difference. This time our middle order could not do the dirty repairing job. I was disappointed to see the shots from Younas, Malik, Akmal and mindless Afridi! OK, his bowling has compensated somehow but he is an experienced player and he should learn to use his ‘tiny pathan’ brain in tricky situations like this. But never mind… This is why he is Afridi! Promotion of Kamran Akmal and reshuffling in the batting order has been disastrous in this Final. He had a very poor tournament and we did not see the normal Akmal that we all know.
I knew our bowlers wouldn’t let us down but the batsmen. We did not have a daunting score on board to chase but batsmen just panicked and lost so many early wickets. ‘Man of the crisis’ Misbah again did his best but he lost his nerve just when we hoped we can lift the first Twenty20 Cup…… No doubt he has been brilliant but he would not forget that he could not pull the victory on 2 occasions against India!
I do not have much complaint as reaching the Final is itself a very big achievement especially when nobody expected but losing a Final and that against India. Whew… No Pakistani supporter likes that. In the end it was a valiant fight but we could have won, hell we had 3 balls and 6 runs! Gul should not have played the silly shot where he lost his wicket. He was supposed to take single and give chance to Misbah. Had we retained few wickets in hands the Cup could have been ours. In big tournament you make only one mistake and you pay a huge price. No Ifs No Buts…. But every one tried to be a hero by hitting huge without thinking and using their brains!
Apart from Imran Nazir and Misbah I’d say our batting was a huge disappointment and our batsmen have only themselves to blame. They have been self destructive. They gave too many wickets away, lost their nerve and cool and allowed Indian bowlers to dictate them.
The positives we can take from this game are that we improved our fielding and formed a good combination of 3 striking bowlers Gul, Asif and Tanvir. Misbah rightly deserves a chance in the forthcoming series of SA, IND and AUS. Fawad Alam should be given more opportunities. The team has to start using their technique and skills now and leave the frantic game behind because now they will be playing normal cricket again.
Salman Butt needs to do serious thinking and really work hard as he was a total misfit for this tournament. Afridi should be given vice- captaincy instead if he is willing to use his brain when it comes to batting.
In the end Sub-continent team won which matters more than anything… Congratulations, it’s the victory of game after the farcical Caribbean tournament.
